BLACK GUM RD. HOUSE FIRE

Columbia,SC- Neighbors used garden hoses to douse flames before Columbia Fire & Rescue arrived to find fire in the attic of a two story home on Black Gum Rd in Hampton Hills Sunday evening. The blaze broke out around 7:30 pm when the resident heard a loud noise and exited the home to find smoke coming from the attic. The fire was contained to the attic while one bedroom sustained heavy damage. Firefighters were able to salvage much of the home in response to the rapid placement of salvage covers on both floors. The damage was estimated around $30,000 and no injuries were reported.
