Pay Raise Update

Members of City Council have advised Local 793 representatives that the City Council intends to vote in favor of the proposed Fire Department pay raises.   Currently the only detail that has not been worked out is whether the city will be able to finance the proposed pay raise in one or two parts.   City Council is currently working on the next fiscal budget and will have a final plan regarding the financing of the proposed raises shortly.   Look for an update on this issue in the February Local 793 Newsletter or on our website.

After the Pay Raise

As discussed in the November newsletter the current pay raise proposal addresses our salaries in comparison to like size fire departments and cities, however it will not address the narrowing between pay grades that has occurred over the years.   The Mayor and members of City Council have expressed their interest in resolving this problem, and have requested that the Local present data which will clearly demonstrate the problem and provide details as to its extent and possible solutions.   Vice President Krusen has worked hard to attain data through the IAFF and to process that data in a way that will illustrate to the City Council the problem that exists between pay grades, and will be working with members of city council to help them understand the data and to provide additional data that they may request.
